Who am I?

Tracy-Lee Waullenbach Editorial Portrait

I believe that every person's story is unique and deserves to be met with curiosity, compassion, and respect. My intention is to walk alongside you as we make sense of your experiences together, paying close attention not only to the stories you tell, but also to the silences, patterns, and emotions that may be more difficult to put into words.

Therapy is not about judgement or having all the answers. It is a collaborative process of listening deeply, exploring thoughtfully, and creating space for greater understanding, healing, and growth. I am continually inspired by the resilience and uniqueness of the people I meet, and I remain deeply committed to my own growth alongside the privilege of supporting others in theirs.

My Professional Journey

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people across a range of settings, including hospitals, university counselling services, schools, and private practice. Each of these experiences has shaped the way I think about psychological wellbeing, reminding me that every person's story is influenced by the relationships, communities, and contexts in which they live.

I established my private practice in 2016, where I continue to work with adolescents and adults. My work is grounded in evidence-based practice, thoughtful reflection, and a deep respect for the complexity and individuality of each person I meet.

Qualifications

Academic Journey

My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (cum laude), followed by a Psychology Honours degree and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling, all completed at Stellenbosch University. My training continues to shape my work, and I remain committed to ongoing learning, professional development, and reflective practice throughout my career.

Stellenbosch University

Teaching and Supervision

Alongside my clinical work, I serve as a consultant lecturer and clinical supervisor in the Master's Programme in Clinical Psychology at Stellenbosch University. Supporting and mentoring psychologists in training is one of the most meaningful parts of my professional life. It continually challenges me to think deeply about the therapeutic process while remaining curious, reflective, and open to learning from both students and clients alike.

Clinical Approach

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

My primary approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, psychodynamic therapy helps us understand the deeper patterns that influence how we think, feel, relate to others, and experience ourselves.

Together, we explore how past experiences and unconscious processes may be shaping current challenges, creating opportunities for greater self-awareness, emotional freedom, and lasting change.

Evidence-Based Integration

I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT). This allows me to draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, tailoring therapy to your individual needs and goals.

Professional Collaboration & Board Membership

Community Keepers

Community Keepers is an NGO that provides psychotherapeutic services to learners, parents and teachers at public schools across Cape Town and the Cape Winelands.

I worked for Community Keepers as a part-time psychologist between 2016-2018, and was invited to join the board as a director in 2019.

As a mental health professional, it is my priority to make mental health intervention (education, therapy, awareness) accessible to all. I have always had a strong sense of responsibility to develop myself and contribute to the development of those around me, primarily through various community outreach projects. Community Keepers shares this vision and does so with excellence.
